Suggestions on a small 2nd car

I have sold my second Mazda 6 2.2 , as my wife has a 4x4 there is no need for 2 big cars, however having issues finding a cheap little car.

What i am after is a car that is very fuel efficient, low tax cost , able to take a couple of Labs.

I have no motorways or Dual carriageways so mostly be single track roads, looking to spend no more that £3000 any suggestions?

Swift Sport, 2012 -2017 model. Fun to drive (if not super fast), reliable, cheap to run, look good, well equipped and hold on to their value well (we have a 2012 Swift Sport as our cheap 2nd car and love it).

How small?

I absolutely love my iQ.

I paid £3k for it and has cost me nothing but oil, filters, tyres and an aircon regas in 2 years and 25k.

Its dead comfy. Leather seats, sat nav, auto lights and wipers and climate control.

99hp and 900kg so no slow by small car standards.

Maybe a non-Sport model but the 2015 Sport I had was awful on single-track roads. Suspension too hard and not enough tyre sidewall.

I swapped it for a Vauxhall Viva (2015-19 model) which has much better suspension and sidewalls. I fitted CrossClimate tyres so it's also very fit for purpose year-round (and the all-weather tyres coping amazingly well with 30'C in recent days) except it needs thrashing to get up some hills. However it's probably a bit small for transporting two dogs.

For carting two dogs about, I'd be thinking along the lines of a Skoda Fabia estate. Smaller than a Focus/Astra, more space inside for dogs than a town car like the Viva or Picanto mentioned earlier.
