New tank for the OH

Hi All,

Need some advice on the following 3 vehicles for my OH:

- 2009 Mercedes GL 350 diesel with c100k on the clock

- 2002 Toyota Landcruiser Auto 4.2td vx Amazon With 165k on the clock

-2011 Nissan Pathfinder auto diesel c.85k on the clock

Looking for a big suv for bikes and dog, high riding etc we do about 12k per year and mainly a road and motorway with big trips to Cornwall and the North of Scotland. Love to know your views on reliability and your experience of these tanks, appreciate mpg will not be good! Excluded TDV8 Rangies due to reliability concerns.

Sadly my OH’s 2004 986 auto with 55k on it is going to have to go so that’ll be PX’d. My OH can’t use it anymore after a major knee op....and my landy series 3 is a work in progress (in bits) so the garage won’t be free for quite a while (bad timing).

The Landcruiser for sure, they go for 100' of thousands of miles with normal servicing. The other two will cause you all sorts of worries (Nissan's are not well made cars anymore) and an 11 year old Merc SUV with 100k in it makes my wallet hurt just thinking about it.

it would be the GL for me a nice place to while away the miles & they're reliable/rugged.

I hear issues on both:

Suspension issues (AHC) on the Toyota, but know there’s a spring conversion from Pedders.

Mercedes as the other poster said there are horror stories but they seem fairly solid busses.

If you need off-road capabilities, go for any of them. If you want to get yourself out again, go for the Toyota.

I don't have experience of the Pathfinder, but the Mercedes isn't very good off-road.

Thanks for that, it’ll mainly be road work with some forestry tracks.

Been reading the reviews on GL’s and barring a few early issues they seem to be ok.

Land cruisers same if the AHC suspension is replaced with springs.

Pathfinder sounds like it’s generally ok but little jobs like AC pipe corrosion is a body off chassis job.

Going to have a look at a GL next weekend as a starter for ten....going to really miss our boxster
