What to buy???
Discussion
I have had numerous types of cars over the years & generally ‘something different’ in the garage for fun - 330d’s, convertibles, classics- stag, e-type but now I’m in my 70’s getting into/out of my 325 cabriolet is getting difficult & although I love the brand coping with BMW unreliability, sensors failing, rims cracking, radiators splitting Etc Etc is getting a chore. So what to buy next? I’ve tried the X3, RAV4 (with a Strange whirring Engine/gearbox), a Sportage and other cross over SUV’s but nothing seems to have any soul. They are ideal for old people-(like me) & those not interested in cars other than to get them from A to B. They are the right height to get in and out of & that is it. I do not cover many miles a year now and I could never replace the ‘depreciation of a new car’ so something a couple of years old or older circa £25k??? Any ideas????
I understand the issue, heart says something with character, head (or rather, hips) says something more upright.
Possibly the best performance car that's reasonably upright is the Subaru Forester - would have to be an earlier model (up to 2007) - like this one https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-fleet/subaru-f... . has the mechanical character of an Impreza Turbo in a taller package.
Sounds like your RAV4 may have had a CVT gearbox, so if you disliked that then maybe look out to avoid those, which are also found in some Subarus and Nissans.
Nissan Juke Nismo maybe worth a look? Or the Infiniti QX70, which has quite a bit in common with the 350Z/370Z ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infiniti_QX70
Take a look at the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 they're a nice interesting SUV & they're very grin inducing especially if you open up the exhaust.

If you don't need the space the Audi RS Q3 is a cracking option:

The Infiniti FX/QX70 is a very nice car they're not SRT level in terms of handling but they're a big step up in terms of fit & finish/spec & they have a nice engine note.
