Impossible to obtain a runaround!

Maybe the criteria is too much for too little.
Looking for a runaround for a friend.
Budget £500
Ideally 1.6 but max 2.0
Petrol - Post 2005 ULEZ compliant
Automatic.
The market is dead, any ones that have come up are snapped up by traders within the hour of being listed.

Missed a FSH 2.0 Impreza for 550

Automatic is your problem. Best to up your budget or spread your search nationally. But then if a car comes up in Scotland, it'll cost you £500 to get there and back Looking for a runaround for a friend.

The other issue around this price point and type of car is the 'hassle-factor'. My mum's got a 56-plate Focus 1.6 petrol auto on roughly 60k miles (so exactly the type of car the OP is looking for) and she's looking at getting something smaller and newer. Privately it should be worth around £1250ish, however she would rather take something like £700 for it trade-in than deal with private buyers - she categorically wouldn't want people coming to view it etc. She's 65 and lives on her own, works as a deputy head and just doesn't want the hassle once she's back from a busy school day. I can well understand why she doesn't want strangers turning up at her door.
The only option is that I sell it for her but that would mean a) getting the car to me and her home again (we're about 90 mins away from each other) and b) me explaining to a buyer why I'm selling a car I don't own from an address it's not registered at (that would raise my eyebrows as a buyer, so fair enough). It also means keeping it insured and taxed when she does get her new car.
Given some of the horror stories you see from sellers it just isn't really worth the aggro so it'll get traded in when she goes to pick up her new one.

So for some context. I’ve got a total figure of 1200 including insurance.
Which means I can stretch to £700 for a car and wrangle the insurance if the car is a low risk vehicle.
For all the cars that appear every so often each one (and I’ve missed) has been bagged *within the hour* and most sellers have told me a trader has come and filled out the yellow slip.
