Sporty Cheap "4x4" Sub £4k
Discussion
There isn't a "sporty" 4x4 in her price range.
The Honda CRV isn't a bad drive, I've known a couple of people with them to well over 100k miles with no significant problems just routine servicing but sporty it isn't.
Maybe a Suzuki SX4 is slightly more car like so maybe a little more what she wants in terms of the handling but even then sporty doesn't come into it.

Cheapest would probably be an early Nissan Juke DIG-T with the 190ps 1.6 Turbo motor, however these start at around £4.5k for the lower spec 2WD Acenta models. You would need to up your budget a bit for the 4WD Tekna spec.
It's now a straightforward remap to get them up to 230 bhp.
Wow - never knew that existed !It's now a straightforward remap to get them up to 230 bhp.
I'm not keen on the looks but I'll ask her.

My daughter drives too fast in her Civic 1.6 and loves it's dash mounted gearstick
She now wants a "4x4" by which she means the look, it could be 2wd
So what's the sportiest cheap 4x4
She wants a CRV but I think the older MK2 Rav is the better driver - anything else worth considering ?
Drives too fast? Thought you were an advocate of that She now wants a "4x4" by which she means the look, it could be 2wd

at least based on your usual content on PH
Bit older, but how about a Honda H-RV. A tidy one should be in budget and they are really rather good.

I am for me, I also ride a motorbike but I'd rather my daughter drove a tank !

(though I smile when I hear friends reporting that she's overtaken them)
You may also find early BMW X3's are around budget with the 3.0 diesel engine.

Standard around 214bhp. We used to have remapped one in Moscow and they do shift.

I googled after you said... didn't recall there being 5dr nor a faster Vtec, admittedly not my kind of 4x4 (I have a 4.7 Overland)
I've forwarded it to her
