Returning a car - legal / practical advice needed.
Discussion
We recently purchased a used car from an independent garage. Turns out there is a problem, and we have not been able to get it resolved. It transpires the garage knew of the issue, but were under the impression they had sorted it. The garage is a long way away, so with their consent I have worked with local suppliers to try and get it resolved, but unfortunately this hasn’t been possible, so we are left with no choice but to return the car, as it really isn’t fit for purpose.
My question, when purchased there was a £400 delivery charge that we and the garage agreed to split, so it cost us £200 extra. If we are now returning the car, am I liable for the delivery cost of £400, or would you expect the garage to cover this?
I have been completely cool through the experience, and worked with the garage to give them the opportunity to get it rectified. However, I will be pretty miffed if it ends up costing me a further £400 to send it back - so £600 in total for a car that was sold with a know issue.
Any practical input and advice would be much appreciated. I do not intend to post any details on here regarding the garage, as that wouldn’t be fair.
Thank you
