I looked at a few cars last week.
The car which ticked all my boxes had a mild to moderate smell of cigarette smoke.
I was honest and told the dealer that it would have been the car for me except the lingering smell of smoke.
The dealer insisted that they could completely get rid of the smoke smell using an ozone generator. I still politely declined because I know how hard it can be to shift odours.
Is ozone really that effective?
And on a tangent, does the fact the previous owner didn't care about smoking in their vehicle suggest that they may not have cared much about other aspects of the vehicle?

Add to all that AutoGlym interior shampoo. I bought a dog of a Saxo years ago that was only 2 years old but the previous lessee had treated it like a shed. Straw in the boot and every orifice as an ashtray. I scrubbed the interior with this stuff and the tar that came out was awful but it pretty much got rid of it all.
I bought a car that had evidently been treated with similar products to those detailed above.
It was effective for about 2 months, when it started to become clear that the car had been smoked in! No matter what I tried, my nose was sensitive enough to the lingering scent that I never felt comfortable in it.
I'd say the products are fine to help you sell a car, but not enough to make a smoked-in car suitable for long term ownership if you have an alternative.
