Strange VED situation on new car

I've just purchased a 2012 Skoda Octavia 2.0 tdi Scout. I was expecting to pay £205 per year VED (band G).

When i went to sort it out yesterday on the Government web site, it came back saying nothing to pay, £0.

Not complaining but seems odd.

It was registered as a Police car at the DVLA. Could this be the reason?

If so, i wonder how long it will be before I'm asked to pay more?

I would bet 100% on that. I'd call DVLA to avoid a sad surprise later...

It was a VED exempt vehicle when owned by the Police

It’s taxation class will currently be “Police”

You need to contact the DVLA and ensure it’s taxation class is changed to “PLG”

It’s a cock up by the system somewhere

It wouldn't surprise me if there's an offence in there somewhere if you knowingly don't declare it and get it corrected.

Would be hard to prove you didn't know it was no longer a police car or that the VED should be zero.

My brother has recently bought an ex ambulance, which had the same 0 VED status, he's sent a form off to the DVLA to get it reclassified.

I'd just let them work it out, the worst they can do is send you the backdated amount.
VED has changed so many times over the past few years that the same model of car with an identical engine can pay anywhere from £580 to £175 depending simply on what year it came off the assembly line.
