To sell, or not to sell?

Hi everyone,
I would appreciate some other perspective on this situation as I really am stuck and totally on the fence about it.
I'm going through some frustration on whether or not to sell my car? It's a BMW M140i 2017 plate and great condition, its reliable and fun. The problem is, I sometimes just can't justify owning it to use so little of the time. I mean, some days I drive it up the motorway and back again just purely to drive it. When I do, I can be reckless and sometimes go faster than id like. One day it will probably kill me! I work close enough to walk or cycle, so it's a weekend car, no kids (just yet) and have the wife's car too. Then I worry about depreciation, constantly freaking out about how much money i'm losing (purchased the car with cash as I dont like the idea of car debt, just my view on it). So this takes away from the enjoyment ... then I worry about things breaking and how much it might cost me. I cant seem to enjoy my car because of this, is it just me?
I also get comfort knowing I have money in the bank and currently after some house renovations, I'm a little light, and feel vulnerable as that cash was my safety net. Now looking at the car and thinking that could be the safety net for a long time and get that comfort back.
I taken my car to an appointment to sell it, but the drive there made me a bit emotional to sell it so decided to drive away last week and keep her, but the thoughts are back.
It's this constant battle between ... life is too short, just keep it and enjoy it and then, you need money in the bank and to feel safe and secure, sell it and take the depreciation into account and you dont drive it enough. Also keeping me awake at night too worrying over what to do.
Finally, going through a rocky time with my job in the sense that I dont may want to change careers at some point and having the cash behind me would provide me with that additional comfort. so appreciate it's multi-faceted

Can't help but think you've answered your own question. Sell it. It's a great car, but you can have just as much, if not more fun with something much cheaper - actually too many to list here.
Of course, that doesnt get rid of the breaking down anxiety but get something simple, reliable and fun - again, not going to suggest something, but perhaps Japanese, small roadster. I believe there is a popular one available.

Thanks - yes it does appear that way. I owned a GT86 a few years back but felt cheap and rattly, now thinking of a little MX5 soon enough next year at some point and bank the rest. Sell it.
You clearly don't 'need' it, and if it is causing more grief (anxiety) than enjoyment, it's a weight around your neck.
Its not going to appreciate sitting in your drive, so just get rid.
Then if you feel the need to get into something, you have the ability. Something not so cash intensive so these worries shouldn't come back.
I'll give you £5k for it...

yeh, I think so. So worried about leaving it and marks on it etc whereas my wife's car is a heap .... but love driving it and its cheap, costs almost nothing and a hoon to throw abouthothatch1.6 said:

Imagine it's 2 years from now. Your job / career is stable, bit of cash in reserve, house is done up. If the answer is one of last two options, sell now. If not ride it out unless / until you actually need to sell it. Good luck either way!

I can't wait the two years, I can barely wait a month without worrying about losing money on it depreciating ... it's just how I feel ... think i've answered my own question If the answer is one of last two options, sell now. some great options I never even thought about. I have the same problem .. with two/three cars.
Also the 140 is super-fast but still a plain ol' easy-to-drive hatchback. Had the same issue with my Audi S1 - the manual 'box was an absolute joy but too easy to drive and therefore not special enough. I found the '1 too soft and unsatisfying at the rear end [?hmmm?]. Something a bit less practical, quirky or hardcore would be a more tantalising w'end prospect.
