2014 Audi S7 as a fun all rounder - discuss

Hello PHers

2014 Audi S7 - please discuss. Is this a great all rounder as something with presence, practicality and (remotely) affordable on running costs? Any other alternatives around the £20k price mark?

Great all round vehicle, but lacking in fun, I should expect, like most two tonne barges.

The S7 isn't a car I'd call a fun steer but as an all rounder it's right up there & that's not to say you can't have fun with it:

6.2 VXR8 it's a bit more focused but it'll do everything you want with ease & sensible running costs too, these have pretty much done all of their depreciation as well:

CLS 500 with the very underrated 4.7TT They're hard to find but imo worth seeking out:

650i Gran Coupe another good all rounder which is also a nice steer:

Maserati Quattroporte S a very good steer which imo is well worth a look & test drive

Some great options ZX10! I want something that’s a class apart from your standard mid-size saloons. The S8s look awesome but £565 on road tax alone is too much. Need something that’s a bit less on the road tax and around 30ish mpg.

In your other thread you said you were getting a diesel A7.

Which is it? I have an S7 and can advise you on common issues and whatnot.

S8 might have better spec but it's not that practical. Lack of folding seats might be a deal breaker. You have to learn to load big stuff through the door, etc. Otherwise it's a decent car, but not exactly fun. It's fact but lacks excitement.

I was trying not to confuse the two threads. Just exploring the S7 option if it's something that would be fun and therefore worth the extra outlay. I drove the C63 a while back and there was a sense of theatre about it. Wondered if the S7 would be similar or if it was just simply a faster version of the A7. Welcome all thoughts.

A7 3.0 TDi 2014 bought for 18k with 37000 miles 18 months ago.
30ish around the doors. 40 at 85-90 Motorway.
70 gives 47mpg. 500-600 per tank.
Super comfortable.
A bit too big for easy parking, but doable.
After I sorted a few known problems, and a Mechtronics box on warranty, it's been trouble free.
Had mine mapped from 245 to about 320bhp and up from 500 torques to 600.
Lazy ish in Drive, but a different car in sport mode.
Paddles are a waste of time as the ecu beats you everytime!
A big heavy car but it can be pushed hard on A and B roads and grips like glue.
I ran Land Sail LS588's for a year and was impressed with them, brilliant grip, wet and dry, but prone to Aquaplaning at speed.
Ive just put 4 Michilin PS4's on and it's transformed the handling. So cheaper tyres are OK, but I wouldn't fit them again.
To be fair the car still looks and drives like new.

In that case I'd be going for the CLS 500 as it's a more fun steer than the S7.
