Lease Car Delivery tomorrow - Checks to perform?

Hello,

I posted this as a comment on the lease thread, but just to make sure I get as much replies as possible from you lovely people..

I am getting a lease car delivered tomorrow for the first time. Is there anything I should specifically look out for when the car is delivered? Any common tricks by the companys who deliver it? The car is pre registered and was in "in stock" deal.

Check delivery mileage and record it, your mileage allowance starts from delivery. The delivery driver should do this but it doesn’t hurt to record it yourself.

Despite what people think, brand new cars are often damaged during transit before and after they reach the dealer network. Check for physical damage like wheel marks, paint work damage, chips, scratches.

As your car is pre-registered it’s possible to have been exposed to the elements or sat in one place for a while, so check thoroughly for damage.

You shouldn’t have to, but a decent driver will also check basic MOT items like tyres, washer fluid, etc.

Also check inside the car for any obvious missing items. I once took delivery of a car with some screw covers missing... the lease company sent me them in the post free of charge but was still annoying.

If you do spot anything, ensure the delivery driver notes it down, as well making your own notes then send it to the lease company. You want it on record for when the car eventually goes back.

With all this said, you’ll probably be fine.

I can't really add much more than was said above. Mainly just checking cosmetics rather than anything mechanical. Make sure everything is as expected:
- Correct reg, engine and trim level (may sound stupid but you never know!)
- Being as yours is a stock car I'm not sure if will have any extras but if it does make sure they are not missing.
- Check paint, windows, wheels etc. If yours is being driven to you it may have some brake dust on the wheels (my current one did) so might be a little
harder to notice any kerbing or scuffs. I remember my wheels being filthy but the rest of the car was spotless.
- As above check the interior for anything missing or any damage. Probably worth having a quick test of interior lights/switches.
- Again, as above, make a note of the delivery mileage.

Might seem like a lot but its generally pretty easy. I'll be doing the same thing next month with my new lease.

Check the locking wheel nut tool is there if the car has them. I had a Skoda Octavia a few years ago that was missing the tool - I never checked when I collected the car and never took the wheels off in the 2 years I had it.

VWFS tried to bill me £100 but I appealed and they cancelled the charge. I check every new car now!

Thanks all, quite professional and no problems encountered! The car wasn't washed very well but apart from that all went well.

forgot to mention that. When mine was delivered the clown thought he was doing me a favour by taking it to a Shell self-wash and hosing it down. Looked dreadful!
