Hello,

Interested in opinions from those who have an M8 GC Comp or LR Sport SVR.

I’m on the verge of ordering one of these two cars on a 3 year lease. Both are about the same price. I test dove the M8 GC yesterday. It’s fast, well screwed together and great infotainment. I was a little underwhelmed by the cabin (not that special) and the looks of the car in general.

Whilst the LR Sport SVR is an older car and the infotainment is cumbersome next to the BMW, I do think it’s a nicer place to sit. Sport SVRs have an image problem so I’ll be choosing a subtle spec if I take this route. .

I want something that’s easy to live with and drive around town as well as a long run to France every now and then.

I’m probably posting this in the wrong place but am I crazy for thinking the Sport SVR is the right option? Just interested to hear perspectives, maybe I’m just not ‘getting’ the M8 GC. I’m struggling to find any U.K. objective reviews for the M8 GC the auto press to gain an opinion.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

M

Haven't been in an M8GC yet but have been in a few M8's & I agree the SVR feels like the nicer place to be out of the two it would be my pick.

Yes the newer BMW is better integrated & when it comes to performance the M8 will be gone but for just rolling around the place & having some performance the SVR fit that bill.

Personally I'd be getting a Jeep Trackhawk they're a nice place (not as nice as the SVR) be & that performance (especially roll on's) just puts a silly grin on your face everytime.

It comes down to what you want from your car.

Thanks, yep, for shleping around London and then the odd long run I think the SVR will be a better place to spend my time. Great tour de force that the M8 GC is I'm struggling to get excited about it.

I can’t comment on the M8 since I’ve not driven one (I have previously had a M6). I really like my current SVR, it’s been no trouble at all very reliable, it’s a great long distance car, very comfy and the driving position makes it relaxing, the ride is slightly harder than the standard RR Sport but not much. It goes well and is actually fun to drive (it’s not as sharp as my wife’s X5M but it’s way more comfortable). The noise and acceleration are great. Yes the info and entertainment systems are a bit older than some but mine does everything I need it to, the thing that enables you to control some iPhone functions from the screen is pretty clunky but I find I don’t need it anyway.

It’s a very different car to how I remember my M6 to be. The M6 was a brutally quick grand tourer, the SVR much more of an all rounder.

I’ve no idea if this helps....
