Curious for comparisons.

Having had various cars since I was 18 (now into my 40s), I’ve taken the plunge on buying first outright brand new car.

Dealership I bought it from had it in their chain, at a different location. I test drove the same car in a lower spec. Suggested they should be able to get the car in 5 days, which I was fine with. Signed up all the finance papers (gone pcp), and paid partial deposit, received the v5 through the post a few days ago. And yet, the dealership are telling me they’re having issues with logistics, and now unable to tell me when it will arrive. Seems they’re blaming covid issues with the logistics.

Anyone else had experience of this? Just a bit conscious that the clock is now ticking on the pcp - first payment due end of August.

Should I be lodging some sort of hold with the finance co until the car is ‘in hand’?

Seems like such a noob question, just first time I’ve gone this route (all previous cars have been nearly new bought for cash), so just not sure if I should be doing more to push this along.

Thoughts much appreciated.

You have signed the PCP documents, but have they actually been submitted to the funder? The car would need to have been invoiced for all this to have happened. It’s typically done on the day of the handover, that’s certainly how I did it anyhow.

Can’t speak to the logistics issues as I am not based in the UK anymore, but it seems feasible, especially where multi-car transporters are concerned.

Looks like they have as I’ve had the letter from the finance co setting out payment dates, including final payment.

As mentioned above the finance can only be started once the car is invoiced. As a rule dealers won’t invoice a new car until it is on site and ready to be registered / delivered so it is strange our dealer has done this.

In terms of logistics, there are still problems as lots of older drivers are no longer working and C19 processes are slowing things down.

If it’s delayed ask them for a temporary loan car.

OP has received the V5C so the car is definately registered, as for being invoiced, our finance company don't require an invoice from us as the invoice for payout is self generated via the finance company, all we do is input a registration date, validate the invoice and payout happens on or just after the registration date, hey presto the finance agreement is set up.

This is unusual.
We don’t register cars at my dealership until the day of collection.
That’s when dvla send out V5 which usually arrives at your address a few days after collection of your new car.

If I was being a sceptic, I’d say the car has an issue, damage or otherwise and they’re trying to fix it before you collect.
They probably only realised towards the end of those 5 days

Thanks all. I'm keeping the pressure up on the dealership. They've agreed to update me daily.

Latest is that they think there's an error in their system somewhere due to it originally being due to ship as stock to one location, before I bought it - so in effect has two orders against it.

Whether I believe that or not, I'm not entirely sure but we'll see.

I'm considering my options - thinking of starting with a pro-rata request for compensation, based on a rate of my monthly finance fee, aggregated on a daily percent. Would dealers be unlikely to agree with that do you think? Trying to think of ways to sensibly incentivise them to push it along.
