Jaguar S Type 3 litre petrol advice

Unlike many on here I've always liked the look of the S Type and find myself looking at them in the classifieds from time to time, but haven't actually tried one - yet!
I think the engine is based on the Ford Duratec that was used in the Mondeo ST220, and they seem to get good reviews.

Yes, the engine is a beauty. Free revving, silky smooth and quiet when wafting along. Service parts, even from Jaguar, are reasonably priced.
Expect low to mid 20’s mpg around town and mid to high 30’s on the motorway.
If anything is the weak spot on them, it’s the gearboxes and the gearbox oil coolers.

I had a 2004 3-litre petrol, bought it in 2015 with 110K miles on the clock for £2,050.
Ran it for 2 years, it was a lazy thing even in sport mode. The 3 litres were fighting a losing battle against it's own weight. If you went into a corner or roundabout carrying medium speed, any hint of a bump or change to off-camber would have you juggling with the wheel as the back end went light/stepped out. Word to the wise, keep your foot down and hope for the best - it'll probably spin you round anyway as the front is so weight-biased..
I was doing quite a few motorway miles for my job at the time, still maintain it's one of the comfiest cars I've ever had. The seats are like armchairs, all other controls are from Fords in the late 90's but if you aren't bothered about that crack on.
Only issue I had in the time I had it, was that the passenger airbag light would come on for no reason. An MOT fail but easily solved by pulling the fuse responsible which still showed the driver airbag as working.
Did 20K miles in the 2 years I had it, got very much attached to my big old beast.
It lunched it's gearbox at 130K miles, horrible grinding noise and couldn't get anything other than 3rd or reverse.
Scrapped it shortly after - £2K for 20K miles in near luxury was a bargain!!

The 3.0 is very reliable but the biggest thing to check for is rust, post 2004 are much better but you still need to check.
