Think the S1 is a detuned version of the same engine found in the s3/Golf Gti/R with minimal internal changes and turbo set up.
That said the platform in the S1's are so similar, that on a mapped car you can go straight from the 230hp (?) standard to circa over 300hp with simply a map and no other changes. Which the engine can handle as it does so in the s3 and Golf GTi and R quite easily.
However, the suspension and braking components are not the same as either the S3 or R and therefore are also not rated to handle that much power upfront. I would argue that for a s1 tuned to stage one would need handing and braking mods to support the power, more so than the equivalent s3 or R needs it. Just an opinion though. As well as the clutch/gearbox issues mentioned earlier.
That said, the car is capable of handling the power there are a number of examples knocking about running 300+ quite safely and not reported many issues. Check out https://www.audi-sport.net - those guys will be able to help you too.
