Which pick-up £4-6k

Need some advice re which pick-up to buy.
The plan is to buy a pickup truck to run as a day camper / adventure car project.
Something like this.
I have a budget of about 5k could push 6 if a very good buy for the truck, with a starting price from around 3.5 to 4k (Anything under this price seems a bit on the ropes)
The vehicle will be used on road with the hopes of getting some off road use, occasionally green lane and highland trek.
The problem I have is which manufacturer to buy? Opinions seem to differ vastly so would be good to hear some actual experience with owning vehicles from the 2003 - 2008 era (within budget)
Pickup would ideally be a double cab.
My top two choices at the moment seem to be stuck between the Ford Ranger in XLT trim, or the Izuzu rodeo 3.0l.
Would be my only car, however no longer commuting so parking / fuel is less of a concern.
