bmw 3 series estate vs audi a5 coupe

I am really struggling between these two options,
I have no kids , go skiing alot and live somewhere that gets heavy snow and I'm driving early before the gritters are out on A roads so need 4wd, plus i like the looks of these two. but which is better? What would you have

Which will be cheaper overall to run? Fuel should be the same but parts wise?

A5 everyday of the week for me, one of the best looking cars in the last 20 years and getting better with time, BMW is just another rep car.
Apparently the auto boxes in the A5 are a bit naff, But I don’t think there’s any major issues with any of the engines in the 330 or the A5.
Also bare in mind that A5 doesn’t have a ski hatch so either seats down or roof rack if you want skis onboard

the A5 is equally reppy anyway.. I had a similar dilemma some years back when choosing between an A5 and a 3-series coupe. Both 3.0 diesel autos, but the Audi was Quattro while the BMW was RWD. The A5 was always the car I wanted more. I preferred the looks and the interior, and it drove OK. Then I drove the BMW and there was just no comparison, so I bought it.

That first gen A5 is a lovely shape, although I don't think black suits it all that much - personal preference of course. A friend used to have a grey one with the 5 door shape and I was a big fan.
But then I'm also a fan of a good estate car... The issue I have with a lot of the beemers of the era is they have the 1990s style halogen headlamps. As silly as it sounds, that'd really put me off one of them. Get one with the xenon's on the spec list though and I'd possibly be swayed with the wagon.

I have a 2018 A5 Sportback - it’s the dullest car to drive I have ever owned. It is better looking than the BM to my eyes, but not by much.
To drive the 3 series is a far superior machine in my book, so for me 3 series all day long (I’ve just leased a G20 330d to replace the A5 and can’t wait).

3 series Touring, all the car you need really, drives great and looks good, just get some winter tyres for the snowy bits, sorted.
I have a 2012 130k E91, had it for years and love driving it enthusiastically, never imagine selling it, well worth more than monetary value now really.
Just does the job so well, it's just so well planted on it's small "unfashionable" wheels, a very nice car to drive, gets rammed up to the roof for Swiss trips, and winter tyres work well on them.
Never been much of an Audi fan, apart from the vintage A4 avant 1.9tdi era, so can't help with A5 experience.

Agreed with the lights - the facelift which seems to generally apply from '65 plate onwards updates the front and rear light clusters to new LEDs and looks much better (though noting you can still find optional xenons on the earlier cars). To help identify, the reversing lights move from the top of the light cluster to the bottom on facelift cars. The standard spec on the BMW is fairly stingy, I've been searching for a while to find one with options of heated seats, HK speakers and widescreen nav. I'm still tempted by the B9 A4 avant 3.0TDI which to my eye looks the more modern car, though the consensus seems to be the BMW is preferrable based on the steering and ZF gearbox.
