Seven seater SUV - £25,000 max. Reliable?

Hi All,

Another child on the way... Hooray. Zafira seems the best value 7 seater I can get, but I really am not keen, but I know nothing about seven seaters alternatives.

Herself loves SUVs (small lady syndrome) but my concern is they're complicated things which fall apart.

You can get approved used Disco Sport '17 plates for £23,000, are these any good?

I take it with any Land Rover I want a massive warranty?

Anything Japanese worth a look at? Mitsubishi Outlander seems cheap and cheerful?

I've seen the new shape XC90 with the T8 engine for under £25k, that's where I'd be looking I think.

The X5 comes in a 7-seater variant, as does the Audi Q7.

My experience of German stuff has been high performing but not a good used proposition...

If all of the seat space is going to be used then I'd say you want a proper seven seat SUV & for me that's the Mercedes GL these are pretty much bulletproof & a great seven seater.

If it helps I've had two X5 E70s, a 30d and a 40d, both 7 seats. Zero faults in 80K miles but they do eat tyres. 3rd row seats for kids only and they don't leave you much boot space.

Q7 is bigger but X5 much better to drive IMO.

If you need 3 full size seats in the second row then Jen the Peugeot 5008 might be a good shout. I’ve got a Kodiaq and have no complaints, it has loads of space and has been very reliable.

I don't know much about the MPVs but I was thinking I'd go for the Zafira over the 5008... Vauxhall has just always been the devil I know.

Newbie question... I know it must vary, and I will of course look before I buy, but is there usually less room for the additional seats in SUVs compared with MPVs then?

I'd avoid Disco Sport unless it's petrol or you can guarantee you have the 'driving style' that suits the Ingenium diesel.

It's only DPFs and an erratic electric tailgate that have been issues on our 18/18 car.

Kodiaq would be my vote.
