I think I’ve narrowed my search down to the following 4 cars.... I’ve commented on what I’ve been told about them, can anyone confirm if what I’ve been told is true?

Audi S4 Avant (2012) - struggling to find one within budget
Audi Q7 3.0 Tdi S Line (2012) - Poor build quality, dated infotainment
BMW X5 40D (2012) - Notoriously unreliable
BMW 335i Touring (2014) - found a nice clean example with 69k on the clock

It’s hard to find an S4 within budget (approx £15k’ish). Was advised to opt for the 335. Both the X5 and Q7 really appeal as they have the additional 2 seat bench in the back, and with 3 boys, it’s very practical. However, being diesels, and with tighter emission controls coming in, I’m really unsure. Would appreciate your input! Thanks in advance

If you have three growing boys then the 3 series is out but you do have some very good options with a 15k budget:

W211 E63 Wagon these may cost more to run than an S4 but the depreciation will be lower which should negate some of the extra cost:

As long as you get a Euro6 diesel you won't have to worry about legislation:

If it helps - I've had a 30d and 40d X5, done 80000 miles with no issues. Excellent car for a large family. Much better to drive than the Q7.

They do eat tyres though. Also, not a lot of room in the boot if 3rd row is up.
