Car details incorrect via registration lookup

Bought a brand new car in December (VW Tiguan) and the registration details on the V5 were incorrect it was marked as 240 BiTDI but the car is in fact a petrol 230 TSI. Informed the main dealer who had to do some paperwork and I got a new V5 with all the correct details a few weeks later.

However, many months later all websites that use a number plate lookup to identify the vehicle (e.g. Insurance / tyres / parts etc...) the car still comes back incorrectly listed as diesel. Does anyone know what database these companies use to identify the vehicle or how often it should be updated?

I cannot speak for all, but some of the spares retailers using these databases bring up my Audi as being the BMW the registration plate was on over 20 years ago!

Fortunately, using the original registration number from my car generally then produces the correct information.
