Petrol or Diesel for 3000 miles per year

Hi all,

I think I already know the answer to this, but appreciate others input.

I am considering a 100 series Land Cruiser, which is the Amazon.
So quite a fair sized 4 x 4. (Bungalow on wheels)

The options are a 4,2L strait 6 diesel of about 210 bhp
or
The 4,7L V8 petrol of about 240 bhp.

Really both engines are so unstressed with such minimum designed outputs.

My wife will drive a maximum of 3000 miles per year.
3 miles to work, and 3 miles return
So commuting is just 1500 miles per year.
Then throw in the same amount for shopping.

This will be a second vehicle.

You do know the answer but which would be easier to sell when you're finished with it? Times are changing so I don't actually know the answer to that.

Sounds like she might need something more rugged and capable than a Land Cruiser for that type of usage.

Her has had the 70 series Land Cruiser, and a 120 series Land Cruiser.

I’d honestly say go for the 4.2 diesel, it will be more expensive to buy than the petrol version but you’ll find it easier to sell on again and lose little on it, a Land Cruiser in good condition will sell itself, a lot get bought for export and they usually prefer the diesel, understandably as they go on forever and are as tough as old boots, no DPF to worry about the short journeys either.

Crazy to get a Derv for that mileage - get a V8 and do the right thing - but what V8 has less bhp than a 3 cylinder yaris..?

Maybe those miles aren't entirely flat and smooth!
