PCH servicing schedule

Hi Guys,

I got a service reminder recently for my leased car (first ever so apologies for silly question to those who do it regularly) and wonder what I am meant to adhere to as far as schedule goes.
I took delivery of the car late Nov last year, however this was a pre reg from Sept hence the reminder about the service around now.
Do I need to get this service done on anniversary of the registration or can I defer that to when I took delivery when the car was actually leased to me? I was hoping to only do one service (after 1st year) and return the car a tad early to avoid doing the 2nd.

Any advice please?

As per the car/manufacturers guidelines, hence why it's pinging up now.

I've seen people complain that they missed the first service date on pre-reg cars as the car didn't remind them.

I guess sometimes the PDI is not done until the car is sold and the service reminder is reset then. On some cars the service indicator doesn't start until the car has done a couple of hundred miles.

I doubt there's much you could do about it now - the dealer is unlikely to tell you it doesn't need servicing just yet. May be worth querying with leasing company,

Really that's bonkers on a pre-reg as likely the car was built months before the registration date. Why not base it on build date?

Many cars can sit around for months prior to registration, pre reg or nor, so that is pretty irrelevant, however the warranty and service schedule will almost always start from the registration date, I don't see why that is bonkers.

For annual servicing, it would make sense to do it 12 months from when the car first starts to be used. It doesn't make sense to service a car 3-4 months (or whatever) early.

It will be.

And disregarding it is generally a bit of a scummy thing to do regardless.

Yes. You need to service it when the car tells you otherwise you will be penalised on return of the car

As some others have said - you service the car when it tells you to, even if the schedule has been messed up by a pre-reg PDI 2 months before you take delivery. If you miss the scheduled window, you will be hit with costs when the car is collected.

I say this from experience having been in the same position. I challenged it with the finance company (I returned the car at month 22 due to a new car delivery, but had paid for 2 services over 22 months instead of 24, if the service data had been set correctly at delivery time) but to no avail.

This is eaxactly what happened with my previous car.
Bought brand new and unregistered from main dealer in May, but car had originally been delivered to a different dealer of the same group in February where it had its PDI which started the service clock countdown.
Fast forward to February of the following year and my car tells me it requires a service, so i contact my dealer and suggest that the service clock should have been reset when I purchased the car and my first service should not be due for another 3 months, to which they agreed,
