Buying your leased car

In early June, prior to my scheduled lease end date in July, I requested a quotation as to how much Alphabet would want for the BMW I lease from them with a view to Mrs R2X buying it in her name,
They quoted me about £16,900. Not bad.
Due to Covid, I allowed this quote expire and instead renewed the lease for a further 6 months.
Now that we know a bit more about our financial outlook moving forward, I decided to re-quote with a view to buying. There’s now an extra 1k on the clock, and the car is 3 months older.
The new quote i have received is.....£24,500!!!
I knew that the used car market had been buoyant lately, but I just about fell off my chair with this £8k increase!
Has anyone else seen this with their cars? Safe to say, the car will be returned to Alphabet.
