Hello,

I will be 19 this year and will be needing to buy a car as my university course requires a bit of travelling. I will hopefully be buying a car early next year with a budget of up to £12k (not including insurance - will hopefully have 2 years no claims by then)

I need a car that's going to last me for at least five years which is relatively cheap to run but I'd preferably like a German car. I have been looking at the VW Scirocco, Audi A3 and the BMW 2 series.

I have only ever driven my parent's cars; I drove a Mitsubishi Colt (07) for a couple of months and the steering rack broke so that was scrapped, I then drove an Audi A1 (2016) for a few months but the insurance was too expensive so I was put on my dad's VW Touran (2008) - this had nearly 140k miles on the clock and the clutch was wearing down so it was sold and we bought a 65 plate Touran.

I've been driving this 65 plate Touran up until now and I have to say I really like VWs due to the build quality. I thought the Audi A1 build quality was quite cheap with creaking and scratchy plastic, however I need some advice on which would be the sensible option out of the three cars I am looking at from the perspective of experienced drivers. Sorry for the long post but I thought it necessary to give my history of cars.
