M4 to C43 AMG - Anyone had both?

I have an itch to scratch with an AMG and due to company car rules I can't get a 63 as I need to keep it to 3.0 or below engine size.

I had an M4 last year and it was amazing (wish I hadn't sold it). I considered a C43 AMG at the time (both coupes) but went with the M4 as I didn't like the crabbing the C43 suffered with.

Now I have owned the M4 I don't know what else can bring me the same buzz for 35-40k 3.0 engine and 4 seats so I am looking at the C43 again, the 2nd generation car?

I know the M4 will be a bit more lively and the C43 a bit more reserved. I will drive them both back to back but had a string of BMW's but wanted something different but not if I will be disappointed.

Has anyone had both?

I'd say go & try a Giulia Quadrifoglio they're really something special more so imo than the M4 having supplied a few C43's they're not full fat AMGs (I think Mercedes should have kept the 400 badgefor these) it's a M340i/S4/5 competitor, as long as you're happy with that the yes it's a good pick.

As I said if it has to be 3.0 or below then I'd personally be buying the Giulia:

Should have said I viewed one of the Alfa’s and they don’t have folding rear seats which is a deal breaker and you couldn’t spec it at the time, not sure if that’s changed?

I need to get a mountain bike inside the car when I travel amongst other things so needs folding seats.

I just checked and it seems the 2019 MY Alfa has folding seats so that’s a possible thanks mate

I thought the C43 wasn't actually an AMG? I thought it was the Audi S4 or BMW M340i alternative.

C63 owners would say it isn’t and it’s often called a baby amg. The badge is official and it’s an Amg on the website although it’s performance is S4, m340i comparable really.

I don’t think the m4 can be beaten really for under 40k

I chose a 440i over a C43 (amongst other things) - so obviously there’s no way I’d choose one over an M4. As has already been said, it’s not a full fat AMG.

The Giulia Quad is a bombastic thing to drive and is like a 4 door supercar but the overall quality is seriously lacking. I ended up buying a Giulia Veloce and it wasn’t a very happy experience (but again, a great thing to drive) and the BMW & Mercedes is a league or two above when it comes to the cabin and a place to spend time.

My Veloce did have folding rear seats however and I managed to get 2 650B mountain bikes and weekend gear into it with a bit of organising. I couldn’t do that with a 4 coupe.

Thanks, good to know on all fronts. The cabin in the c43 seems quite special so I will try it and see. I have had so many BMW’s I need to try something else and the Giulia although a weapon doesn’t seem the right car for work and 15-20k a year but I will definitely have a test drive and see whether the grin factor changes that.

This is all theory of course so I need to drive all 3 and see what is best

I had a C43 and I found it to be quite a quick, competent and comfortable car. The only real downside to the C43 was (my perception of) the weight of the thing, it just felt a little too heavy for me and I ended up getting something lighter. The crabbing thing didn't bother me at all. I should add that the C43 wasn't my daily.

I’d totally agree with this - the Mercedes is a lovely car but just didn’t feel as nimble as the 440i and didn’t make quite as nice a noise.

The crabbing that has been mentioned - if you mean the car feeling/sounding like it’s dragging the inside front wheel on mid/full lock at low speeds, the then Alfa Giulia also does this. It feels and sounds horrible.

It is possible that the Quad doesn’t do this as it probably has bespoke geometry - I can’t remember from my test drive, but the Veloce was terrible. So bad that people would turn and stare!
