What do aE24s go for now? My old 635M was over 25 years old but would get me in anywhere, priority jocky parking at hotels, and Vip area at UK High commission function on several occasions.

I just picked up an Alfa Romeo GT JTDM for 2.6k, needs a couple of bits but 4k would get you a decent example with sub 100k miles and minimal issues. Better looking than the Brera as well...

Depends on what type of drive you want from the car. I have a CLK 280 Elegance because a relaxed cruiser is what I'm after. I would assume that the BMW is a sportier drive, and that any diesel engined coupe being suitable for more of a high milage daily driver.

Personally is steer clear of any 280 or 350 petrol engine in a Mercedes. Up until 2009 they have problems with the balance shaft, really cheap parts but engine out £2-£3k repair.

Imagine the Joker saying "not sure if serious", and you'll be close to the image I wanted to counjer.

The GT is an under rated car imo. The 156 I had impressed me, and I wish i'd seen the hatchback version of my old car at the time that the wife bought a s3 Hyundai coupe (like the Brera, a car that looks a lot better than it drives)

But the Brera is a fantastic bit of design...makes the GT look old fashioned and fussy, and still prettier than all the Alfa offerings over the subsequent decade (mito etc)

There was a 59reg 3.0HDi (yes really) in Autotrader for £3k last week. Didn't last long. I think they are quite handsome.

It's still there!

So you are talking about the M272 then?

Yes. I know of at least 2 cars that were 2009 models (build dates) that had the problem, however you'll read on the internet that the problem was resolved by 2007/2008.

Thanks for sharing. I had never heard that. Always heard that the Mercedes V6s were very reliable.

Pity as I quite fancy a R171 V6 with a manual and have that in my list for the near future. The SLKs R170 and R171 seem to be the only way to get a Mercedes V6 with a manual.

The GT is old fashioned, wouldn't call it fussy though.
I think the Brera has it right from the front end to the back of the front doors, then it all goes a bit wrong. But yes it is much better looking than almost anything else they've offered since. I do like the Giulia though, especially the fast one!
