Bought car with issues - advice please
Discussion
Hi all, first time positing here. I know I’ve been a bit of an idiot here, but some advice would be greatly appreciated.
04/09/20 went and viewed an 11 plate megane hatchback diesel, just under £3.7k with 67k on the clock and and had its cam belt done. I need a good runner for work, hence viewing.
No issues when driving, all seemed good when on the test drive. Had a dent on the side where previous owner had curbed it and needed a new tire, discussed with dealer and bought for £3.5k. No warranty specified with the dealer
Took car away on holiday this week, noticed brake judder when coming from 70-50. Found it was the rear brake discs and pads so had the whole set replaced (£340).
This got me worried, so went back and checked all my documents. I noticed it had ‘spares’ written on the invoice, which I hadn’t noticed when buying the car. I also did a bit of digging online and found that the cam belt service the car had done hadn’t had its water pump done (even though dealer said it had) I found this out as the car had been serviced at Renault and the price the previous owner paid didn’t include the water pump.
MOT next due 25/01/21
It’s been just over 2 weeks since I bought the car, I haven’t rung up the dealer yet as it’s the weekend. Where do I stand? I know I have some rights under the consumer rights act, as it was never advertised as spares nor did he tell me not to test drive etc.
I’d ideally like to take it back and invest my money into somewhere else, but maybe faced with the reality this won’t be possible.
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

There’s nothing actually wrong with the car then?
Given the surreptitious nature of ‘spares’ being noted on the invoice I don’t think you stand much chance of getting your money back easily from the dealer and to be honest it doesn’t really sound like you have a solid reason to either.

On what basis are you wanting to return the car under the CRA? The fact it hasn't had the water pump replaced?
From what you write so far you found an issue with the brakes which you have rectified yourself so I don't see any comeback there, if the water pump is mentioned in writing or emails etc you may have some come back to get the water pump replaced but otherwise its word on word.
Writing spares on the invoice doesn't mean anything in reality other than there is no warranty implied by the dealer, this is a common tactic by small independent back street type dealers but it doesn't affect your rights under the consumer rights act.
As it stands unless i'm missing something you are driving around in a functional and usable car for your money so I don't see on what basis you can expect to return the car, and I wouldn't expect the dealer to take it back either.
