Buying a van at auction

I'd like to buy two VW transporter vans. I'm wondering if auctions are worth it for private buyers these days?
I'd be looking for something like 2016 models, with the best spec I can get. Obviously the nature of the auction means you're at the mercy of what is available and how many bidders want the same vehicle as you. But are bargains easy to come by at van auctions these days. I've read that private buyers often have to pay higher fees at auction houses.
What would be a good auction to sign up to for regular commercial van lots.
