"Dodgy Cars" group on FB. Eye opening!

Just stumbled upon this group on FB. They highlight cars that are being sold on the UK market that have previously had unrecorded damage. Most of the sellers do not mention the shady history of these cars.

Quite an interesting trawl.

It's also made me check a new car that I'm due to pick up on vcheck as well as HPI. Vcheck seems to be more thorough with the history of the car and whether it has previously been sold by a salvage company.

I came across VCheck.uk a while back and would take an educated guess that they're behind the Dodgy Cars page.

Some CAT cars slip through the net and if it's gone through a salvage auction these guys will know about it. Some of the dealers get a bit upset it they're outed.

I don’t think it is. They look like they are members of vcheck’s affiliate program and send traffic there to earn commission.

I guess the risk with any used car is that it could have suffered a significant amount of damage early enough in its life for it to be deemed economical to repair, and thus not be recorded. I recall a thread on here in which a guy was trying to get his insurance company to write-off his BMW M5 which the insurer's repairer had tried, unsuccessfully, to repair and was continuing to attempt to repair. Wouldn't want to be the person who ended up buying that at some later date, but I guess someone would be that unfortunate person.
