Good GT car with 4 seats

Hi all,

I really want a good GT car, preferably with 4 seats, mostly just for me to bomb around in, and to occasionally move the boss-woman and two kids. Sure I could buy a hot saloon such as M3/ M5 but they just don’t have any soul.

I’m seriously considering a reasonably new Mustang GT, the 21 Century choice, or a Jag XKR. Sure the XKR would be a 10 year old option but with a 5 litre engine, 500bhp, and a decent interior it’s still a nice car, for similar money as the Mustang. OK, the mustang wouldn’t be as nice inside but it has more room in the back, more tech, 400+ BHP, and has bags of character.

What’s your thoughts???

Maserati Granturismo? I used to have an early one, the rear seats were very usable, the rear seats could sit an adult, compared to the rear 'seats' in the car I have now, which is children only.. The car was very comfortable on a trip to Belgium too. It was completely reliable during my ownership. The engine sounded fantastic, I had the 4.2.

I like it but Masers always worry me on reliability and servicing costs.

Ah yes, there was that, I had a great local I dependent garage that used to look after mine, but it was still pricey. Reliability wise it was great.

Has anyone mentioned the Mercedes CL yet? Full fat CL has the S-class underpinnings, and for the OPs £26k budget there's plenty out there.
For an extra £5k there's even a 2011 CL600... Twin turbo V12 anybody? Very cheap to run and not at all ruinous
But keep it around the CL500s and you will have a sublimely engineered 4 seater coupe with a 4.7TT V8.

If you want a proper GT then I'd recommend a 4.7 Maserati GranTurismo S.

For servicing & running costs being between £900-£1400 per year (that's what mine cost at my Indy) reliability isn't an issue on the 4.7.

Now another true GT is the Mercedes CL I'd recommend the 4.7 BiTurbo 500 it has enough pace to keep you entertained with no AMG tax on parts & servicing. If you map it you're into CL63 territory.

You can get a nice one well under budget too.

Forget an XKR back seats are useless....for your budget id go CL63 as already mentioned. A fine cruiser but with a nice growl and very good pace when needed.
