Has anyone gone from Boxster to MX-5?

.. and liked it. Now I know plenty of Porsche fanboys wouldn't touch an MX-5 with their electronic dipstick, and I guess to them this question is irrelavant, but has anyone ditched a Boxster for an MX-5, even if it was for budget reasons? I figure the flat-6 will be the biggest reason to go Boxster - not sure how much the average driver (even on PHwould can take advantage of the mid-engine layout - and I've certainly seen some crazy driving on the 'ring in a relatively standard MX-5 so it's not exactly a sub-standard car..

My misses had a 981 S. Good car. She liked it because it was easy to easy to drive.
Now has an nd rf. I never really drove the Porsche. But the mazda, every time I can I grab the keys i'm off. TBH i'm beginning to wonder if my slk is now becoming redundant. I had an nc before my slk. Missed it from the day it was sold.
If your all about hp and want to impress your mates with how fast you can go, then the mx5 isn't for you. But if you just want to go for a thoroughly enjoyable drive and put a massive smile on your face. There really is nothing like it.
The nd is quite small compared with the nc (and tiny compared to a boxster) but does has a bit more oomph due to being nigh on 100kgs lighter. Obviously comparing stock cars here.
Personally I like the look of the 3.75 nc roadster, but the nd is growing on me.

Had both, just recently sold my 987.2 S - and had a Mk1 MX5 SE - loved both, Porsche obviously has more power and was a lot more solid, but both provided that excellent "sports car" experience. The Mazda was a lot cheaper to run overall (not just buy price) but didn't have the prestige badge or image.
Have started to look at replacements and a MX5 is on the list - but so is a lot of others.
I don't think you can better the Boxster experience pound for pound, little else gives you the same combination of feel, power, comfort. Having a 987.2 removed a lot of the worries of engine problems, but was offset by a higher purchase price.

Hope this thread gets plenty of comments as it’s very topical for me. I’ve had a 981 Boxster for a year and it’s good for long comfortable journeys but for me it’s a big heavy car for running around the local backroads. (Coming from an Elise it was bound to be really)
I’m thinking about changing to an MX5 or GT86. I had a lease MX5 a few years ago so know what to expect. An MX5 is probably favourite due to the soft top. I can get my mechanic mate to service it too and avoid expensive Porsche dealer bills.

i had a mk1 MX5 as a fun car and really wanted to upgrade to a Boxster many years ago. it would have been a cash purchase and the cash was burning... borrowed a Boxster for a week and decided against the move. Nothing against the Porsche at all, it is a superb machine and the engine was delightful. but as usage was only for fun i suddenly realised the mx5 had more of it. after that i pursued lightweight cars for fun, even if the engines were weak. obviously in most respects the Porsche wins, but for a simple b road blast with plenty of slip, i stayed with the 5 and progressed in other directions with later cars. now i'm getting old a Caterham is next on the list.

I know the cars are miles apart to some but for me even a standard MX5 ( I currently have 2 and do sprints, hillclimbs , targa rallying and Autosolo in one of them ) was more interesting to drive than the Boxster...
my choice would be a solid Mk1 supercharged car done by a reputable tuner. Circa 200-220 bhp . Trust me on a twisty B or A road with Meister R suspension a Boxster would struggle to keep up.
