Sub-5k future classics...

I enjoy the PH "Six of the Best" articles and the ensuing discussion and I would absolutely spend the money and enjoy a dream car that I've always wanted whilst it's still feasible if I could easily afford it but in the case of the last "30k future classics" article, I could barely justify that figure on a daily driver/family car, let alone a "toy". I've been driving newer, mundane stuff for the last few years due to personal circumstances but have found the sub-5k market a happy hunting ground in the past and my friends and I have enjoyed some really great cars at this price level over the years, many of which have now risen exponentially in value out of this price range.
I'm talking about stuff like Mini Coopers, 205 GTis, mk1/2 Golf GTis, mk1 MR2s, E30 325is, S14 Nissan 200SXs, Corrado VR6s, Impreza Turbos/WRXs and one friend even owned a "cheap" E30 M3 in our final year at University, which would be unthinkable today! These were all tidy and decent cars at the time of ownership, not just rusty heaps too.
The prospect of owning an interesting/desirable car that has done most of its depreciation and is never going to lose much of its value and may even appreciate in time is still very appealing. So whether it be an interesting but practical daily driver or a weekend "fun" car, which cars currently sitting at 5k or less do you think have the potential to be future classics? Cars are there to be driven and enjoyed, so I'm more interested in good cars with minimal depreciation rather than owning a "garage queen" and investing in an appreciating asset (but obviously any appreciation would be a bonus).

I don’t know what the original Cayennes are going for these days but they are looking quite good today too, IMHO obvs.

Agreed. Timeless Bauhaus design means that they are a surefire future classic. I just missed out on a really good one for £3k about 18 months ago, I would think that would be a minimum for one worth keepingI know they made loads but they made loads of MK1 escorts as well. There is a growing 'scene' over here (USA) for the MK1 TT. Good condition cars are already shooting up in value. An Aviator Gray 225 with low miles would already be north of $10k here. I know they made loads but they made loads of MK1 escorts as well. You can get them for £1k. Buy 5!

I had one for 3 years and it was brilliant fun. Loads of people commented on it which was interesting as it was one of the cheapest cars I ever bought. Sold mine in 2015 for 1500 quid but try finding a nice one for that money now. They're becoming quite rare and prices are on the up. Still well within a 5k budget for a minter though.

Pre-2000 Civics:
An EG6 in Japan or America will cost over ten grand. A reasonably nice UK VTi or previous import Jap SiR will be £5-6k here today and only going one way.
I paid £2k for this in 2014, needs restoring now but it's crazy to think I got a roadworthy one for that money now.

I don’t think the original TT is a bad shout actually, I’m thinking about getting an original Boxster and not driving it much they’re likely to go up imo, the non turbo versions of the 996 have already started to.
Not so sure about the poster who said early Cayennes,although having had one they are great cars, the Turbo might?.

Buy them and enjoy them for what they are great cars but don’t plan or expect any “appreciation”.
We’re going to have 4million on the dole in a few weeks no one is really going to be wanting to spend cash on a luxury. Then EV / ban of Petrol and Diesel new sales from 2030 in U.K. is certainly going to have an impact - think ULEZ making them extremely costly to run in those areas.
