Focus ST which one ??

I am considering buying a Focus st. I have a budget of 9000 pounds,infact i have 10000 but i want to save a bit for any bits that are needed. My question is do i look for a 2.5 or a 2.0 ? Which is more reliable ? Which one can have the power increased the easiest ? Which is the best VFM ?

I've owned both.

The Mk2 with the 2.5 is the better engine and more tunable if you want to go down that route but at this point is very outdated inside, a lot of hard (but well wearing plastics).

The Mk3 has a better cabin but unless you can afford the facelift version which may be out of budget it is a pretty ugly looking car in my opinion.

Both cars are pretty good for reliability if you go for a Mk2 look for one which has had the block mod done with proof, I would imagine most have at this point though, it basically involves fitting metal shims between the cylinders in the engine to stop the cylinders going out of shape and cracking, mostly an issue on modified cars, also bare in mind that lots of these cars have been modified and put back to standard numerous times before sale now, especially the Mk2's so what you think may be a standard car may not be.

i have my eye on a 13 plate.I asked what make of tyres are on the car,he told me they are budgets.Put me off a bit what else has been scrimped on?

I’d go for a mk2 or play the waiting game until a facelift mk3 comes into budget - it has a much improved interior and puts its power down better.
