Small SUV for elderly parent
Discussion
For once the answer is NOT "Honda Jazz"...
My 91 y/o mum wants a new car, since my stepdad (same age) is struggling to get in and out of her Honda Jazz. She wants a "high up car with large doors, but must be a 5 door". Which doesn't help since small + 5 doors = smaller doors. Oh and an auto box.
Budget new or lightly used around 20-25K I think.
So far eliminated:
Ford Ecosport - no auto
Citroen C3 Aircross - no auto
Ford Puma - doors too small and screen slopes too much
Skoda Kamiq looks possible
Ideas? Needs to be reliable, not too big and have a fairly level boot lip as, at some point, one of them will need a walker/sheelchair.

Is a Yeti too old and too cheap? The last ones were 67 plated. Just under £20k now.
Good call! Found this fairly close to her, would need to be franchised dealer preferably:https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202009043...

And with regards to the flat transition from the boot floor to the scuff plate, yetis with spare wheels have this. The one above has a step down because it has no spare wheel. A lot more boot space though, so there are pros and cons. 1.2 DSG will be perfect for older people. That 1.2 is punchy enough. It’s surprisingly nippy.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202009043...
Our elderly and arthritic relatives are finding their Hyundai I20 getting difficult to get in and out of. They have been looking at an IX20 and think that it should be a lot better.
Edit. I'm not sure about the boot floor, might be worth checking.

You can buy the flat boot floor from Skoda though if needs be.mr_spock said:
Thanks, I'll talk to her tonight. Don't think she'll like the Berlingo, she's a bit of a car enthusiast and I think rather resents that she has to have something like this! Years ago when all her friends had Rovers, Hondas etc she had a manual BMW 323i E30 2 door.
Glad I didn't suggest at her age she gives up the car & pays for taxis instead
VW caddy life, Ive got one and its great, really easy to get in and out even for elderly parents. Drives just like a golf. Boot is huge and also with a low flat lip.

Thanks all. Mostly local with the odd cross-London trip or an hour up the A1 to see me. Also they do drive to go on holiday in the UK. Electric no good as there’s no charging point at their flat. I had a Mokka rental a while back and I think the doors are a bit small and the boot also.
I’ve passed on suggestions and will go with her for a test drive soon. I’m glad he’s giving up driving though.
