Would this MOT advisory bother you?

Hi,
I'm looking for something cheap for my teenage sons first car. We found a Yaris that looks in good condition, but saw on its very recent mot the following advisory:

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
suspension coil springs are corroded
rear inner sills are corroded and rear inner wheel arches suspension mount area

Notice it was also on last year. Does that sound expensive for anyone more mechanically minded than me?

inner sills could be nasty ...certainly need a good look

if its a cheapie clean it up and underseal it for a few years more life ...if its somethin expenive find a cleaner one

depends on the car and the price, on a yaris...I'd walk, theyre ten a penny and wont be hard to find a solid one.

inner sills and susepnsion turrets being corroded will mean its probably going to need some welding in the not too distant future.

Good new is with an inner sill you wont also nee to pay a bodyshop as it can be patched and painted with underseal without ruining the look of the car.

When looking for my eldests first car we checked out quite a few Yaris and a surprising number of them had a fair chunk of rust that resulted in test fails. They seem to either be fine with no rust or absolute rot boxes so as this is already advised for it I'd give it a wide berth.

In the end we got a newer Renault modus 1.4 in a decent spec with a great not history for similar money.

Yep - completely down to the price point. If it's less than £1k and that's the only thing that is an issue then I'd take the risk

Or,

if it was weakened structurally, then the MOT tester would have failed it. As it is, there is surface rust present that has specifically not made the car dangerous (at the last 2 test dates).

Find a better example, sure. But an approach of treating advisories like fails is a bit OTT imo.

Problem with mot standards is each tester has their own. It could be surface or could be about ready to turn into a hole but we don’t know. We don’t know how strict the tester is but if both sills and suspension turrets have corrosion you can expect it will need work.

If I had an advisory for rust is a structural area, I’d be getting it sorted not leaving it to get worse for another year. It could just want a brush and treating but that hasn’t been done which tells me everything I’d need to know about the seller.
