If you consider FWD, there are a number of hot hatch offerings that would be suitable (Ahem, Civic :P )

Something like an MR2, Or a Japanese-engined Lotus would be good, though - Being lighter they shouldn't cost the earth in consumables either.

Either a 330i, or a z4 coupe, also 3 litre. But straight 6 n/a is likely the way to go.
Does an e46 m3 come in budget?
Or how about a 335i or 135i?

I think the m3’s are very high mileage examples so would probably a bit of a risk, how reliable are the n54 engines, I’ve heard they aren’t great? And assume you mean the 330i/ci e46?

FWD just hasn’t done it for me tbh 😂 I am debating splitting the difference and getting a track car and road car but tbh I do quite like driving the race car about hahaha as well as the fact of paying doubly tax and insurance etc...

If a GT86 is too impractical, maybe a modified 130i. Reasonable room for 4 and not too heavy. You would need to find already modified unless you want to spend a load on upgrading brakes, suspension, LSD and tyres.

370Z imo this is a more accomplished car than a Z4 & they're a good base point for a track toy.

I did have a 350z and really liked it, it just became pretty impractical once we moved out of the family home and had to use the car more for just general things 😂
