Car deliveries with a no deal Brexit
Discussion
No info yet for us, however last year when we were originally leaving properly prior to an extension, we were told that any tariff would hit, if the car wasn't imported by X date, no matter what the customer originally signed up for, if the car wasn't in the country in time then the tariff would apply.
Don't worry about it, won't happen. Boris himself said during the referendum that there was a million to 1 chance of a no deal outcome, and numerous other Brexiteers told us how easy a deal would be, as we held all the cards. Would be sorted over coffee on a Sunday. I'm sure none of these respected politicians were f
king liars.

You can rely on politicians to do the right thing, but only after they have exhausted all other options.
king liars. So there will probably be a deal, but it won't happen until one minute before midnight on the last day. Just like the Euro zone when they were trying to resolve the Greek crisis a decade ago.
Porsche has been making people sign a Brexit surcharge waiver on new orders, if they land in the country (1st Jan onwards?) and the 10% is applicable, the buyer is responsible for the premium.
If you've placed the order and not signed the waiver, the dealership will be liable for the 10%

If any dealer charges you 10% they are having a laugh.
Its 10% duty, sure, but on the price its imported at, not the price they sell it to you for.
Of course, if they only charge you what it cost the importer, then you would know how much margin they make.
I suspect it will be used to increase margins,

As I understand it that was the case prior to the Withdrawal Agreement (I.e last year), but not now. Certainly my dealer didn’t have a clue.If you've placed the order and not signed the waiver, the dealership will be liable for the 10%

Edit: also this is just the deposit - my order has not yet gone to build...

It was, and it went away, but they've started doing it again, a few people have passed up on GT4 allocations because they came with the Brexit letter fairly recently. Edit: also this is just the deposit - my order has not yet gone to build...
Good question. There’s no guarantee of them getting another allocation so it’s a bit of pot luck really. The regular production series cars would have more flexibility, you’d think. I know that if I were to cancel my GT4 (due November), I wouldn’t just be able to go and order one again next year..
The handling, and subsequent confusion has been pretty poor, I think. Others have refused to sign the form and will see what happens when the day comes

Ah yes I forgot the GT4 isn’t a regular production model. I doubt not having signed the letter will help because I’d be surprised if there wasn’t a clause that covered that?
Three years ago we bought an Audi S3 and in the period after we ordered it they changed the model year. That meant we had a few extras chucked in, which was nice, but also meant it crept over the (then) £40k VED threshold so we ended up paying a load of extra VED for the next few years, which was reasonably annoying. But a drop in the ocean compared to 10% of a Taycan, naturally.

It just all seems a bit of a mess really, some have it in writing from the dealership that they would cover the fee should it be imposed. If you’ve not signed the letter, I’d expect the dealer to pick up the tab. I certainly wouldn’t be signing the letter. Luckily I don’t have to, but still!
Which model Taycan did you go for? I’ve seen a few but not driven any yet. They’re very well screwed together.

Just the 4S - very adequate for my ‘needs’. We were honestly very impressed indeed. Drives like a Porsche. Small things that make a big difference, like the steering wheel diameter being just right, the control weights being perfect as well as a beautiful interior and obviously, insane torque. A genuinely fun car to drive. And not just that - Bobo Jnr fits in a reverse facing car seat in the back and his pram fits in the boot. I think it drives more like a 911 than a Panamera, and looks fantastic in the flesh - perhaps not as exciting as a 992, but miles ahead of a Panamera (or rival electric cars).
Oh yeah. And it’s electric. It’s good enough that it’s easy to forget...
