When I bought current Audi 2 years ago, prices were pretty much retail book.

Now, been looking around at used A8s, S6 & others used from Audi around £30k-£40k.. Prices seems to be 5k to 7k more than Parker’s or insurance valuations when you put the reg in for a quote. They won’t budge on prices but then I’ve seems few dropped to £3 to £4K over book. Their trade in price in my current Audi is below Parker’s trade in.

Looked a BMWs, 540i & d X drive and X5, prices roughly at or below Parker’s and insurance values. Even their p/x is better.

I don’t get it, why are Audi used retail prices so high? Even on autotrader their franchise approved prices have ‘high’ rating.

Does seem to be a lot of movement of their stock, even given the above. Making hay whilst the sun shines. Put me off though, think I’ll go for the BMW X50d.

Mike Brewer, as popular as he is in general was gassing about this recently, His take was the price guides are far too low post COVID and dont reflect the market, causing friction with customers. He says they cut prices when in reality they had risen and this causes chaos with the lenders the dealers declare their stock values to.

From what I’ve seen they are spot on for other stuff like the A5 sportback,

Probs give you a dealer contribution on the finance or something to make it look cheaper.

Think he’s right, certainly wound me up seeing prices so high compared to the ‘books’. Some dealers seem worse, Toyota definitely up, £12k for a 10yr old Rav 4 with 90k..
