Hi all

I’m new here, usual story of being a lurker and now here I am. Thought I’d actually join so I can watch threads, comment in posts and ask a few questions.

I’ve also now found myself casually looking for a new car, probably from reading threads but I’m easily influenced.

Come to the conclusion I need an estate in my life. I’m 23yo and currently have a 428i m sport, so not after anything too boring. I’m into mountain biking and want to start doing track days on my motorbike (which I’d rather tow since tracks are all 1.5hrs away) so it seems to be a good fit. But would appreciate some help from fellow PHers finding one please...

I go back and forth between sheds and something nice. I could go up to about 20k (after which insurance seems to kill me). I love Alpina D3 BTs but there aren’t any around. I like the 159 Sportwagon but again. Not many good ones about and not sure on reviews. Also saw someone picked a nice E46 328i up for cheap which was interesting.

Brief car history (old -> recent) if it helps Golf SE, Mini Cooper S JCW R56, Audi A3 tfsi, Fiesta ST2, Suzuki Swift Sport, Fiesta ST3, Defender 200TDi, BMW 428i M Sport.

Girlfriend already gives me hassle about how I’m always on autotrader etc so send me links and keep me in the doghouse please.

Cheers!

A 340i Touring would be the obvious to consider I think

I did see and like that (after another post on here mentioned buying a C63 wagon). I put it to my insurance but it went up £1400!

340i is a shout. Not sure if I can get one for the budget though. And also not sure there’s capacity to tow. Although towing wise I could literally just have a sub £1000 shed for that...

The C63 is a good shout, but not that particular car, too many niggly things for me.

I’ve had mine 2 months, it drinks like an alki at a free bar, but by Christ it’s worth it

Great list. Thanks a lot. I really like the Beemer and the Polestar. Also assume by your name you’ve got a Kwak??

I don’t know if others are like this but I seem to go in circles with cars. I think I want a shed estate, just like a £2k (ok not technically a PH shed) e46 320d...then get something proper alongside it for £15-20k. Then I end up just looking at C63 wagons etc. Even found myself looking at a discovery TD5 this morning.

I'm like that. Multiple cars would be ideal, but then I don't really have the space, but then I'm compromising if picking only one....

Glad it’s not just me. I’m in the same boat space wise. And also on the compromise aspect.

Definitely leaning more to buying a shed. Then either run it for a year and save some more money to buy something nice for cash. Or increase my budget with a much larger deposit.
