I've bought my mrs a car a couple of weeks ago. Tried taxing online today and had the response
"V5C/2 reference number you have used is invalid"

The previous 2 owners beffore me had never used the car so never sent off the logbook. Its been filled in now with her details after scribbling out the previous owners.

Is It possible that the new keepers slip could be expired as it hasn't been taxed for so long?

The usual reason for this is that it is not the latest one issued. Do a DVLA vehicle enquiry and it shows the date of the last V5 issued. If that's not the one you've got that's the problem.

agreed, not the latest V5.
Just had same, seller lost V5 and i agreed to buy before a new one arrived. Seller was adamant they hadn't paid for a new one but a check said it was issued 2 days prior, the next morning it dropped through their letterbox and they completed the transfer online.

Get to the post office and fill in a V62
