Looking at Audi R8 V10+ 2018
Discussion
Hey all,
First post on here so go easy on me.
I'm looking into getting an Audi R8 V10+ and ideally wanted to know for anything to lookout for when buying?
Also, what're people thinking residual wise? I'm looking 10-20 thousand miles and to keep for a 12 to 18 month period, paying around £85k mark initially.
Keen to have a conversation if anyone wants to engage.
Thanks
O

They are deceptively expensive to run. Early ones can also suffer from scored/chipped bores and being nikasil, it's an expensive repair. Suspension is also an issue on early models, almost all mag ride suspension leak eventually.
I'd check all these have been addressed on 2018 models. As for residuals, they aren't the best but you shouldn't lose your shirt.

I bought a 2013 Gen 1 R8 Plus three years ago for £75k, and sold it last month for £53k.
It needed zero maintenance in the three years, just servicing and two new tyres.
It was really nice, but I never fell in love with it the way I did with my previous V8. The lack of adjustable suspension was a pain.
I’ve just swapped it for a 9,000 mile McLaren 650s, which on early impressions I’m going to enjoy much more.
The engine in the R8 is absolutely wonderful, and I’ll miss it, but for all of the delicacy and responsiveness of a N/A engine, I think the utter wallop of a more powerful turbocharged engine is enough to make up for it.
Think carefully about the choice of seats. The sports buckets may not be the best choice if you are planning on doing very long trips in it and you aren’t lithe and young.

Irrelevant without quoting miles. Enjoy the 650, that and the 675 has to be the most reliable in their range. It needed zero maintenance in the three years, just servicing and two new tyres.

Above posters have mentioned Gen1 but you are obviously looking at Gen2 at 2018/£85k.
I think the 7/8k dealer margin is your initial loss but I really think a 17/18 Gen2 V10 Plus will be 70 odd grand at worst for the next few years - its just too much car and does everything so well that its always going to be popular. Its also one of the great V10s and the last of an era of N/A power. I think keeping it a few years may be better value so the dealer margin is spread over a longer period.
Obviously Covid may screw everything but that would be common to whole of market so doesnt really count.
I think Im going to buy one very soon after considering this or a 540C which I feel will cost too much to run with warranty, so fingers crossed Im not completely wrong.

My response was in regards to ensurinh the engine issues have been resolved. And you talk about reliability. Lol
Yes, why the “lol”? How many miles per year do you put on each of your cars? Like you I have a few, and between those and the bikes each one doesn’t get a huge amount of use.How many miles per year is needed in each before someone should mention their ownership experience?
I had a V8 for a few years before the Plus, and again, had no issues with it.

Unless it's a rotter with moon miles or a track car, what's going to go wrong in 6k miles??How many miles per year is needed in each before someone should mention their ownership experience?

I’m not getting your point here at all. Someone’s asking about a car, and I posted up my experience. Why are you so keen to police this?
I think the point he's making is that in a thread asking about the car, you probably didn't utilise it enough to really test it's reliability."I've been exercise for 30 years and I'm never once had an injury - all this warming up and stretching is nonsense"
"How much exercise did you do?"
"For 30 years I walked 80m to the shops to buy a newspaper"

I suppose that he might have a point if the OP had said that he was buying it to use in his job as a cross-continental courier, but as it's perfectly possible that he'll use it as I did mine then mine is just another data point for him to use, or not."I've been exercise for 30 years and I'm never once had an injury - all this warming up and stretching is nonsense"

Policing?? What are you on about. Its a forum, you're posting up a response about reliability of the R8 and you did 6k miles in one. Your opinion, in my opinion is almost irrelevant. Kent Border Kenny said:
