Which c.£10k 4 seater convertible?
Discussion
I'm considering moving on from a 987 2.7 Cayman and fancy something different. Criteria are:
- Convertible
- on or around budget
- 4 seats (it will get more use if I can get both kids and my wife in)
- Needs to live outside (could get a cover) so nothing too old
- Needs to be fun
- Limited depreciation
The current front runner is a B7 RS4 but I also like TJ series Wranglers for very different reasons. I may have one then get the other, it doesn't need to be a keeper just something that's fun and will help indoctrinate the kids!
Go as left field as you like with this one!

I went down the 4 seater convertible route a few years back. I was trying to tick as many boxes as possible in one car. The trouble for me (actually others) was that the experience in the back was pretty miserable - cold and windy with the roof down whilst the front seat passengers were nicely cocooned. With the roof up it was very gloomy for passengers with tiny side windows. I wouldn't bother again and will stick to 2 seater convertibles as a second car.
Can you get a decent RS4 for 10k?
I would have said an E500 but finding one will be hard at the moment,, so take a look at the E350

For me the Mercedes & S5 would be my first picks, the Mercedes has the least buffeting wjndows up in the back due to the big wind deflector.

Thanks for the responses. The RS4 might require man maths but I've always liked them. I'm conscious you never want to be buying the cheapest car on the market. Hoovie makes a living out of it but I'm not that brave.
I take the point about a 4 seater convertible potentially being a jack of all trades.
ZX10, I really appreciate the time taken to put that list together. I had looked at the S5 and do like them, also the S4 and potentially a nice high spec A4. I had an E46 M3 coupe many years ago and loved it. I think finding a decent manual now would be really difficult. Plenty to think about.

Don't overlook the 9-3 convertible. I had the 2.0T aero and was rapid, comfortable with balance handling. I'm sure mine had 4WS but cant remember if that was standard or and option or I dreamt it. Either way it had the best seats of any car I've owned.
Additionally they did a V6 Turbo.
