XJ X305 V12 Or Keep my 2001 P38

Right Chaps.

I need an opinion...

Title says it all really, I've really always had 2 ultimate "dream cars"

1) Being a Nice P38 "which i currently own"

2) A X305 Xj12

Both are equal in my book, however I won't ever be able to own both as i'm not and never will be wealthy enough, atleast before owning such a car will become a difficulty, in the UK atleast...

I'm 20 and have a long list of V6 and V8 car's i'd like to own but as 2030 approaches I don't think i'll have a chance to work through that list, hence my lust for a V12..

The alternative is to splurge on my P38 which "in my head" could do with....

Respray
Top end overhaul
Gearbox rebuild as it is tired
Interior tidy up, mainly just clips
Axle refurb

and a 1000 other little niggles..

Which would you keep?




I also fancy restoring my Grandads old Shadow 1 but that'll never happen...

For some reason I can't sell cars, I tend to get attached to them, the reason why I can't easily junk one car and get another! lol

The Jag for me..

My Gramp died when I was 14 - He had a Jaguar Mk2 which he registered new on the day I was born - My parents wouldn't let me keep it, and it was sold for £500 - The exact amount he left me in his will when I reach 21! Never saw that car again...!

If you want to tick the V12 box, get the Jag now.

FFRR are nice things, I have regular access to one, but unless I regularly needed the 4x4 ability I'd not get too attached to one.

Sell the P38, get the Jag. When the fun of it has worn off sell and buy an L322.

What do/will you use them for?

If you have dogs to carry or things to tow, the P38. If you don't then the Jag.

You could, of course, just make a big pile of £20 notes and set fire to it - it'd be quicker and more painless than either.

I guess a tin tent behind the P38 would be convenient!

However having an XJ12 would be a cruiser dream!!

If you're 20 with a P38 and want to travel round Europe, why on earth do you need a tin tent ? My wife and I did it 40 years ago in a Renault 30. Mostly sleep in the car, occasionally find a B&B.

What's the deal with 2030?

Those cars aren't available new so their availability doesn't depend on 2030. They are just starting to get old and harder to run for that reason

I have followed your thread on the P38 on DW and know how much time / effort / money you have sunk into the P38 - do you really have the enthusiasm / motivation to do it all over again with an XJ - if you do then go for it

Just on the 2030 comment, it's just new ICE/hybrid cars which will be banned.
PHEVs in 2035.

So you'll have plenty of time to own various petrol cars in the future.

It'll be 20+ years until they become either too expensive to run or become 'illegal' to run on the road.
