Pajero Evo or Land Rover 50th anniversary?

As daily driver.
Well, not so daily any more due to the Shanghai Shivers, but dailyish.
Have had a bit of a hankering for an Evo for years but spares availability keeps me from taking the plunge, and have always loved LR's from afar but can't be arsed to change gear anymore. Also love a V8.
Did think about getting a LR and putting V8 plus auto in....

I bought a Pajero Evo way back in 2005, as a big Paris Dakar fan I just had to own one.
I put some decent tyres and aftermarket wheels on mine and it was a blast to drive, the tyres I put on were Pirelli Scorpion Zero's if I remember correctly and they transformed the vehicle. It was at home flying over sand dunes at silly speeds as in the Paris Dakar as opposed to a mud plugger, so made a decent road car as it was quite comfortable for a SWB. I surprised many a car at the traffic lights with it.
I have had a series of high tech Japanese imports, Isuzu Vehi-Cross, Subaru SVX etc and have never had any issues with them, I always said to my friends 'it's Japanese they don't go wrong" and I proved myself right over many years.
By the way they are a V6

Love the look of that Evo.

The 50th anni defenders are very old now.

I used to get sent to buy a few of them 10 years ago.

Even back then most were showing their age.

Rotten chassis, covered up with waxoil.

Most had rusty fuel tanks that would need replacing.

I'm sure there are some that have been "restored" but you just don't know how well.

Too easy to just paint over, or waxoil, to temporarily hide problems, for them to just reappear soon after purchase.

So I'm just saying, be careful if you go the 50th route.

Back then I paid £7000 for an immaculate car just imported into the country so a perfect service record and about 50K miles. If I were to buy another I'd give Torque GT a call as I understand they import from Japan on a regular basis and have a good reputation.I understand now you knew about it being a V6

Good luck, of all the cars I've had I'd buy another one of these.
There is some wonderful footage of the Pajero Evo if you find footage of the Paris Dakar from about 1996 onwards.
