Lead time on vehicles

Just been quoted a lead time of 6 months for new vans for work with the comment that it's similar for cars. Are most not in stock vehicles really taking that long or is the supplier having issues and we should try elsewhere? It's not as if it's something rare, it's 2 transit vans with a few necessary extras (like tailgates which are 100‰ essential for our use).
