VW Touareg MK2

Good morning everyone.
I am after the friendly advice and wisdom of the PH'ers. My wife is wanting to change car and has her heart set on a VW Touareg mk2. We have had a look at an R-Line 2016 260bhp model at a main dealer and were a fan of the vehicle after the test drive. Our budget should allow us to get one of the final mk2's before the all new model came out. Ideally we want the higher powered version.
Are there any mk2 current owners here and are happy to share how they find living with the vehicle on a day to day basis etc? Has anything (good or bad) surprised you with the vehicle? I am debating whether I go for a 2017 model or for a 2013/2014/2015 model and save myself a few £. From what I can see, there isn't a single difference between the older facelift models and the newer facelifts apart from the price e.g. more tech etc.
Apart from the usual alternatives (X5, Disco etc) can anyone suggest anything different? If you are indeed an owner of one of the alternatives then I would love to hear how you find the car etc.

I had a 2015 R-Line 3 litre for a year or so. Very capable, fast enough, and quite comfortable. Fuel economy was OK - could just about manage 40mpg on a run.
I tried running it as my only car, and it was just a bit too wide on the local roads. I ended up buying a small car for local deliveries.
If you can live with the sheer bulk of the thing, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

My wife has a 2015 R-line Plus (3.0 TDI); we would normally have replaced it two years ago, but just can’t find anything better to replace it.
Cons:
- Bit wide, yes, but all SUVs are (fairer point would be to say U.K. roads are very narrow)
- Whilst I think that 3.0 TDI engine is fab, I don’t think it works perfectly with gearbox in this. Pulling out of T-junction you either get all or nothing.
- Bit boring
- Half black wheels are ugly as

- Often found myself taking this car over our BMW M5
- Best value for money and probably best car we’ve ever bought.
