New Family Car Advice Please

Hi All.

We are after a new car (to us not actually new!) . Budget is max 5k but really looking for sub 4k, working from home so will be have the odd run out during the week and then trips out to the Peaks at the weekend etc. Annual milage approx. 8000 miles, but realistically looking at half that at the moment given the times.

Ideally looking for 7 seats as we have 3 young girls who aren't getting any smaller. Plus would be good to take the parents out every now and again. Decent boot is also a must as we go camping a few times a year so lots of gear to squeeze in.

Would love a car that's not run of the mill car, have been looking at JDM's - Elgrands, Stepwagons etc. but the sensible side of me is starting to win me over as the mpg worries me slightly not that we'll be using it an awful lot apart from weekends out and about. Recently been looking at the more sensible S-Max and Galaxies, but most within budget have very high mileage.

Been going around in circles for weeks but currently don't have a car so need to give my head a wobble and get the ball rolling! 😊

A Merc E Class estate? Some have a 7 seat option, granted not great seats, but the option is there.
