Trying to figure out the right car for me.

Hey guys,
Hopefully im posting this in the right place and all is OK.
To give some background, I currently drive a 2017 Mini Cooper which has been great for me while I've had it but now im looking for something a bit faster and a bit more fun. I want something that can do it all though.
Im currently looking at cars like the Golf R or jaguar XE S as they really are cars that can do it all. I live in the countryside surrounded by great roads to have some fun on but I still do some motorway driving. I also have a love of sports cars like the GT86 but I want something a bit more upmarket for things like motorway cruising and daily living. I am open to cars like the ones I have mentioned previously and also things like BMW 4 series etc.
Just thought I'd ask you guys for your opinions on what would be right for me. My budget is a maximum of around £16,000 on the used market. Bonus points for a car that turns heads
P.s. Automatic/manual doesn't matter but if its automatic I would love to have paddles. I may even lean more towards automatic with paddles.

I think at £16k you'll find better condition Golf R's with lower mileages than you will XE S. I would say the XF S might be in that bracket but then it would be getting on in years. That said the XE is a spectacular car and I really enjoy it.Just thought I'd ask you guys for your opinions on what would be right for me. My budget is a maximum of around £16,000 on the used market.
Also look at the 428i or 430i, they had manual & auto and in my personal experience drive far better than the 2 series. Additionally I was recently testing a 3 series and I must complement the ride and drive.
Lastly don't forget the Alfa Giulia.

Definetely the kind of thing I'm looking at. Just wondering how good the autos are in the m235i and also how good space is in the rear seats/boot. I can deal with sacrificing some practicality for good fun though
I have an M2 which is essentially the same inside and it has plenty of space in the back for a tall 10 year old and 7 year old. The boot is plenty big enough for the weekly shop. It's no less practical than a 3-door hatchback.The ZF 8-speed is very well thought of. I personally find it lacks a bit of engagement compared to a DCT, but it's very smooth and efficient.
