Hi ladies and gents, as per usual going through the web and looking at cars outside my reach at the moment... what car would you buy for around 30/35k as your only car?

Would you go for an old school jdm and pocket the rest of the money?

Go for a modern german car such as a m3/m4 etc?

Got an Italian itch that needs to be scratched?

All just fun and games but am interested in what you guys would buy and why 😁

P.s. saving for a house instead of getting a fancy car for now 👌🏻

Yaris Hybrid, with the rest in the bank.

Sorted for 10 years.

Not of course a PH answer, and deadly dull, but dull motoring is good motoring - excitement comes from wrestling with bears, and jumping out of aeroplanes, or climbing the Dolomites, not driving to those places.

The problem I see with the above is with the only having the one car. I have an old JDM car, a '96 RX-7, and reluctantly concluded that running a 20+ year old turbo rotary as one's only car isn't ideal - too much money on maintenance and time out of service, can't keep the A/C working for more than a month at a time, and the low driving position seems to give me too much glare at night on the motorway. So now I keep it for 'fun' use, which it's wonderful at, since that's what it was designed for. And then I have a practical Mercedes V8 estate as a daily.

Fundamentally there are sports cars and there are saloon-based cars, and ideally I want one of each - I'd miss the immediacy and poise of a thoroughbred sports car, and I'd miss the comfort, refinement and practicality of a 'normal' car.

However if I had to choose, I'd probably pick a true sports car but with reasonable refinement to it. Which inevitably means a Porsche, either a 911 997.2 (with the updated keine-schokolade engine), or probably my first choice, a Cayman S 981. Boring, but if limited to one car I'd probably go there.

If I decided to lean the other way I'd probably double-down on the estate thing - if you're gonna have a larger heavier platform you may as well maximise the practicality - and get an AMG C63 estate, or as an outside option a BMW E61 M5 Touring with the V10.

OK, maybe wrestling with bears was a bit of poetic license. smile

If you have lots of sh*t to carry around, a Golf R estate.

If you have less sh*t to carry around, a Golf R hatch.

If you have no sh*t to carry around, a GR Yaris.

For a do it all Lexus GS-F, failing not being able to find one of those then I'd go Australian but not in Orange.

I'd personally end up with a m2 if given the choice as an all rounder.

An evo 8 mr and keep the cash for upkeep if I was feeling devilish

I'd probably buy a GT-R:

Or if I wanted to be sensible I'd get an E450 Coupe:
