Need help buying a car!

Going through a dilemma here...had a few cars in my history and this year I have no clue what to get.
My OH and I have been leasing for the last 4 years. Started off with a VW Golf R and then moved in the last two years to an A250 AMG. We’ve fortunately got £15k to spend on a car outright in January but we have no idea what to get.
I’ve looked at electric cars but can’t face the motorway issues and lack of charging points since we do travel 100+ miles on occasions. A Golf R that we want (fell in love with this car) is costing us £20k+ which is out of our budget.
I have a certain taste in cars but due to lockdown feel that I want to keep costs down because really there is for me no reason to spend more money than really necessary.
Looking for some ideas really on what I should look for in a car for around the budget, nippy, good options (most important).
Got any ideas?

To save everyone barking up the wrong tree, im guessing you really want something less than 3-4 years old, and under 20,000 miles on the clock? Correct me if im wrong!
Personally, if i had £15k and wanted value for money motoring, id only spend £5k on a car so you dont lose thousands in depreciation...

If you liked your A250 why not get it's cousin the Infiniti Q30 Sport they come loaded with kit & have exactly the same drivetrain (you'll instantly recognise the Mercedes switchgear etc when you look at the photos) but with AWD instead of FWD.My OH and I have been leasing for the last 4 years. Unless your 250 was highly spec'd the Q30 has the nicer interior out of the two.

2018 Sport this will involve some haggling but you lose out on the proper Sports Seats (Infiniti started pegging the high spec back & making that stuff an option post 2017) compared to the 2016 car:

V40 T5 R Design Lux Nav not quite as nice & equipped as the 2016 Q30 but a nice high spec car none the less.

This is the pick of your list it's the best quality/spec'd & has a good amount of go should you need it, this one is just over mileage & price wise but haggling will get you back on the budget side.Been doing a bit of searching around and have seen that some cars offer a lot less for the same price than lesser badges (I know it’s obvious).

It was an option but I would be after the Lapiz Blue which is £24k or so which in the current climate is too much and like someone said, I’d lose thousands on depreciation throughout.
I’ve been looking around the market and have changed my mind in what I want to those (more budget) car brands (Kia, Hyundai). Seen that these offer a lot more car for the money when compared to say the VWs and Mercs at the lower levels such as GT, A180 points.
Really interested in the Kia Rio at the moment as it has a lot of the extras I’m looking for, things that would cost you in a Golf or an A class. Plus with that you’d end up having to get an older or higher mileage car at the prices I’m looking at.
Are you aware of any other brands which when boiled down for around 10-15k allow an abundance of extras and are around 1-2 year old cars...?

I’ve been taking a look at the three i20, Rio and the Q30.
As options are the most important to me and getting as much grunt as I can at the price point, I’m thinking the Rio is the only option.
There are of course many trim levels within the makes and I quite like the Rio GTS Line, does that have the same level trim as the Rio 3 or is there a difference.
Also how well equipped are the i20 and Q30 at the same level?
I want to go into dealerships to ask but things are closed near me!

The Q30 has nigh on the same spec as the Rio First Edition minus the Heated Steering Wheel but it's a clear step up in quality as it should be remember this is a Mercedes A Class in everything but the name. It also has AWD & the 200bhp 2.0T as the A250 & they're auto.I’ve been taking a look at the three i20, Rio and the Q30.

The 2016 car I linked to above is the pick for your budget, you say you have a certain taste & want a good amount of go so all of those requirements lead to the Q30 Sport you could go for the 2018 but then you lose the Sports Seats & get a lower spec interior.

As good a deal as the Rio is, it wouldn't get a look in.
Having talked about this with the missus I don’t think I’d be driving around too much in the new car. So what I like in terms of power doesn’t really matter any more.
The Q30s seems a great alternative but since I won’t be driving much, it makes sense to go for a Rio now as the missus doesn’t really care for AWD and BHP since it’s all about the extras and it appears on paper that the RIO has this in abundance even over the Q30 and Hyundai i20.

Just to complete on this thread I’m going to be looking at getting the Kia Rio GT Line. It’s the one that looks the most sporty out of the i20 and has the options I need (except for a heated steering wheel and automatic air con in the line above it the GTS-Like, which I can live without).
Didn’t go for the the Infiniti Q30S because the power is not needed anymore and for the price of 12-14k, I get a pretty new car circa 5k miles and a very good spec for the price.
